Ron Cobly with Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. We’re going to talk a little about rod actions and stuff, what you’re going to be wanting to do. We said that lighter rods for lighter presentation, medium light for your jigs and tubes and stuff. Another rod that’s missing out of there, you want you arsenal is a crank bait rod, where you’re going to get something with a really nice bend in the middle. This will be kind of a medium action, not a fast. You’re going to get a nice bend out of it when you’re going to let the rod play the fish. You’re going to want a soft tip so you can feel the crank bait jerking and vibrating as you’re going down and making the catch. The other thing that’s important with the rods is if you’re doing that. If you’re trying to cast a very light crank bait with too heavy rod, you’re going to be back lashing a lot. If you’re doing it too soft, it’ll also put too much snap and cause back lash. Too heavy a rod, you’re not going to get a very far cast. Too light, you’re going to be over one in your crank baits and constantly picking out back lashes, so choose the right rod, the right action for the right presentation and you’ll catch more fish.
